The roux-en-y gastric bypass is an effective form of weight loss surgery that is distinct from the gastric sleeve in many ways. Whilst the sleeve requires the bariatric surgeon completely remove up to 80% of the stomach, the bypass involves a technique which restructures the stomach entirely.
Like the sleeve gastrectomy, a gastric bypass requires patients to have a minimum BMI of at least 35. The procedure is performed to limit the chance of developing potentially life-threatening health conditions that are related to obesity. These include heart disease, cancer, stroke, sleep apnea, and gastroesophageal reflux disease amongst others. Also known as comorbidities, these conditions can be detrimental to the quality of life, and the roux-en-y gastric bypass is designed to help relieve those. Typically, gastric bypass patients can expect to lose up to 70% of their excess weight.
Bariatric Consultant Surgeons
The bariatric consultant surgeons that we use at Allure were handpicked for their knowledge, experience, and expertise. This helps us to ensure that the patient experience is as positive as possible, leaving individuals confident we are providing the highest levels of care possible. Our consultants are Mr Jambulingam, Mr Sultan, and Mr Madhok, and they operate in the South East, North West, and Midlands respectively.
These consultants also take care of our gastric balloon patients, a non-surgical form of medical weight loss that involves the placement of a intragastric balloon made of silicone or polyurethane in the stomach. These balloons can last for either 4, 6, or 12 months depending on the model chosen, with the longest term balloon seeing an average weight loss of 18%. It is important for patients to recognise that these balloons are temporary and it is therefor necessary to make certain lifestyle alterations in order to sustain weight loss post-placement.
With three surgeries across England, including in Watford, Manchester, and Derby, Allure Weightloss is able to provide private bariatric surgeries to patients across the country. Like the Consultants themselves, these independently registered facilities were chosen for their location and ability to provide the levels of care that Allure Patients typically expect.
Allure Weightloss is a CQC registered provider of bariatric surgeries in the UK.
