How Does The Orbera 365 Gastric Balloon Work?

The Orbera 365 gastric balloon is FDA approved to be in the stomach for up to 12 months and requires an endoscopy at placement and removal. A typical patient can expect to lose an average of between 10 – 18% of their body weight with the Orbera 365.

Each placement with Allure is complete with nurse and dietitian care in order to help people achieve this. We also provide weight counselling as an optional extra for those that feel like they may need a little extra support. Allure Weightloss provide gastric balloon placements across several of our clinics in the UK.

The endoscopic procedure itself will last around 20 to 30 minutes and require a light sedation for your comfort. Once placed you will be observed for two hours before you will be free to leave, after which you will not be able to drive for 24 hours. Initial symptoms range from nausea to cramping and can last for around 3 days. Severity of symptoms varies from person to person and is not measurable, however we find that the more we prepare our patients for this the better they are able to manage them.

As suggested above, the Orbera 365 is a temporary device and non-surgical. FDA approved to be in place for up to 12 months it is also considered the most flexible option in that you can arrange to remove the Orbera at any point before that should you feel comfortable. This gastric balloon procedure requires a minimum body mass index (BMI) of 30 to be placed.

This weight loss balloon helps patients to lose weight by occupying space in their stomach and repressing the hunger hormone, ghrelin. The Orbera balloon can help overweight patients avoid and reverse obesity related health problems such as diabetes or high blood pressure. Following your balloon placement, once the deflated balloon has been removed, you will have hopefully made sustainable lifestyle changes that can last you in the long term to help sustain the weight loss.
