Whether you are having an Orbera 365 or Allurion Balloon placed, you can trust that the framework is there to support you in facilitating your success. This is support that goes further than placement, support that you can access for months whilst the balloon is in situ. Whilst the balloon itself will not change your habits for you, it does provide you with the ‘space’ to do so. By sitting in an area of the stomach called the fundus it delays gastric emptying, suppresses the hunger hormone known as ghrelin, and occupies around 60% of the total stomach. These factors come together to help you feel fuller for longer and lose weight. Gastric balloon patients typically lose between 10 – 18 and 10 – 15% respectively.

Dietetic support is essential to our aftercare packages. It allows patients to feel supported as they make the necessary lifestyle and habit changes whilst the gastric balloon is in place. One to one support from our registered dietitian means that you receive professional guidance when it comes to how and what you eat. This is information that you can take with you into life after the gastric balloon.
Gastric Balloon Nurse Care
Our nurse will be on hand in the days directly after your placement to ensure everything is going as smoothly expected. Of course, it is natural most people will experience some level of discomfort in the first few days after placement, and Haley will be on hand to guide you through that before and after placement. This is in order to prepare you and help you manage your own symptoms effectively. Although rare, should anything be of concern Haley will also be able to help guide you through the best course of action.
For those that feel as though they may need it, we are able to offer additional support in the form of weight counselling with Dr Mark Bruce. As we understand that sometimes issues with weight can go deeper than our trouble sticking to a regulated diet, this optional extra allows us to give patients an extra layer of help should they feel as though they would benefit from it. And, of course, our patient coordinators will be available weekdays to point you in the right direction and help with any questions or concerns should you have them.
