The Single Anastomosis Gastric Bypass

We are pleased to offer patients the ability to take advantage of the single anastomosis gastric bypass. Often referred to as the mini-gastric bypass there is nothing ‘mini’ about it, like any metabolic and bariatric surgery, it still considered a major operation. Instead of a Roux-En-Y gastric bypass, the mini-gastric bypass incorporates some of the properties of the gastric sleeve and traditional gastric bypass. The most notable difference is that the mini-gastric bypass only requires one new join (otherwise known as anastomosis).

As mentioned, the mini-gastric bypass incorporates elements of the sleeve and traditional bypass. Specifically, in this weight loss surgery the upper part of the stomach is divided into a tube, similar to the upper two thirds of a gastric sleeve, and then joined to a loop of intestine.

The mini gastric bypass can be used for those new to bariatric surgery or as part of their revision surgery. The mini-gastric bypass is considered a safer option by consultants when it comes to the recovery process due to the nature of fewer surgical joins.
