Patients are admitted on the day of surgery and usually only need to stay for one night before being allowed to go home. From home they will recover with the guidelines outlined by their consultant, nurse, and dietitian. Everyone is different, but typically patients are able to go back to work after two weeks, with a full recovery expected at around 8 weeks. Bariatric surgery, whether sleeve or bypass, can take up to 4 hours to complete but often less.
It is likely patients will be asked to go on a liver reduction diet to prepare for surgery, this is simply so it is easier to access the stomach, making the procedure much safer to perform.

As touched on, our aftercare programme will allow you the peace of mind to ensure you have the knowledge you need to boost all areas of your recovery. Our nurse and dietitian team will work with you to maximise your weight loss results through regular meetings. Dietetic care is important when it comes to helping patients understand what they need to do to eat safely, as bariatric surgery requires you to look at and approach food differently.
