Bariatric Surgery with Allure Weightloss

Any elective surgery requires making a massive decision that can have major ramifications on your quality of life. By reducing your comorbidities and even curing certain associated ailments, bariatric surgery remains a hugely powerful tool when it comes to helping individuals transform their lives. Weight loss is something that many people will actively struggle with at some point during their lives, and there is no shame in seeking help.

The Gastric Bypass

Referred to as the ‘gold standard’ of bariatric surgery, the Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass has been a staple of weight loss surgery for decades. This surgery involves creating a new ‘stomach pouch’ from existing tissue, one which bypasses the old stomach to attach directly to the small intestine. The old stomach will continue to supply digestive juices in order to support the natural process.

The procedure itself can last between 2 to 4 hours and is usually conducted laparoscopically (keyhole surgery) by one of our consultant surgeons. You will stay overnight at our independently registered clinic for one night and then go home. You will be supported by an aftercare team of nurses and dietitians that will help your recovery and ensure you are hitting your milestones. This surgery will require you to change the way you approach eating throughout the day in order to sustain success and health.

Overall, patients typically lose 70% of their excess body weight with a gastric bypass as measured over a two year period.

The Gastric Sleeve

The Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy, commonly referred to simply as the Gastric Sleeve is another form of weight loss or bariatric surgery that supports patients to lose weight rapidly within a period of time. The major difference here is that the consultant surgeon will remove up to 80% of the stomach during a usually laparoscopic procedure. Just like the Gastric Bypass, the Sleeve can take up to 1 – 4 hours to perform.
