What Can I Expect at the Allurion Balloon Clinic?
Depending on where you are in the United Kingdom, your Allurion Balloon Clinic will differ, but the fundamentals and high standards associated with this non-surgical weight loss procedure remain the same. You will be greeted by a lovely receptionist who will sign you in and you will most likely be instructed to the waiting room.
The consultant will then meet with you to sign the last of several important documentation before going through to the room. In the room will be an X-Ray machine, used to ensure your balloon is sitting in the correct place. After some instruction, you will then swallow the capsule. How Does the Allurion Balloon Work?
This famously swallowable gastric balloon works by leaving you fuller for longer and allowing you the mental space to make the necessary lifestyle changes, alongside our HCPC registered dietitian. Filled with 550ml of liquid, the Allurion Balloon ensures around 60% of your stomach is occupied at any one time. This reduces feelings of hunger by suppressing the hormone ghrelin. At around 16 weeks, the balloon is designed to deflate and pass naturally through your GI tract.
The Allurion Balloon is unique in that this non-surgical procedure does not require the endoscopy or sedation like other gastric balloons such as the Orbera 365. The Orbera 365 can stay in the stomach for up to 12 months and sees an average weight loss of 10 – 17% in patients in comparison with the 10 – 15% of an Allurion Balloon.
