Reach Weight Loss Goals with a Gastric Balloon

Have you struggled to reach your weight loss goals through dieting and exercise alone? Are you looking for a non-surgical medical weight loss solution? If so, a gastric balloon placement with Allure Weightloss could be the answer. Depending on the device you choose, and your dedication to the programme, you could see a total reduction in body weight of between 10 – 18% (on average). At Allure Weightloss, we supply two distinct types of gastric balloon – the Allurion Balloon and the Orbera 365.

How does a Gastric Balloon Work?

Gastric Balloon Allurion Weight Loss Balloon

This weight loss device is inserted via an endoscopy (in the case of the Orbera 365) or via a swallowable pill attached to a catheter (in the case of the Allurion Balloon). Once in the stomach the balloon will be inflated and occupy around 60% of the stomach whilst sitting in an area called the fundus. Whilst placed, the gastric balloon is designed to suppress the hunger hormone ghrelin and delay gastric emptying, all combining to leave you feeling fuller quicker and for longer. With this in mind, it is this reduction in hunger and the reduction of daily calorific intake that will give you the space to lose weight and make the necessary long-term changes for prolonged success. You will be working with an Allure Weightloss dietitian in order to help this happen for you. Gastric balloons are temporary and non-surgical, a key difference between this medical device and bariatric surgeries.

Eligibility

There are several eligibility requirements when it comes to the gastric balloon, and these may vary depending on the balloon that you are looking at. For example, the Allurion Balloon has a BMI requirement of between 27 and 55, whereas the Orbera 365 requires a BMI of between 30 and 50 to place. Furthermore, an individual must not have previously undergone any bariatric or gastric surgery in the past in order to be considered eligible.

Gastric Sleeve & Gastric Bypass

The gastric sleeve and gastric bypass, both bariatric surgeries provided by Allure Weightloss, are distinct from gastric balloons namely in the fact that they are indeed surgeries. They require permanent lifestyle changes in order ensure health and successful weight loss and weight loss maintenance. A surgery is for someone that may be looking for something more permanent than a gastric balloon, or someone that is allergic to polyurethane or silicone.
