Nurse Jodi Ellison
DipHE, BSc Nursing
Prior to taking my role as a bariatric specialist nurse, I worked in surgical high dependency for 8 years, looking after patients post-surgery.
For the last 7 years I have worked with people before and after bariatric surgery. It is a privilege to be part of their weight loss journey and I really love the work I do. I pride myself on being up to date with my knowledge and on my contribution to the scientific community, underpinning the advice and support I give.
I am very excited to be part of an exemplary, highly experienced team, empowering people for the best possible outcomes weight loss surgery has to offer.

Gastric Bypass
A roux-en-y gastric bypass surgery creates a new structure out of the existing stomach to create a small pouch. It bypasses a portion of the stomach in order to reduce the amount of food you can eat at any one time to help you lose weight.
Gastric Sleeve
Typically performed as a laparoscopic surgery, a gastric sleeve (sleeve gastrectomy) removes around 80% of the stomach to create a tube or sleeve-like structure in order to reduce the amount you can eat and thus lose weight.
Mini Gastric Bypass
A mini gastric bypass operation reduces the size of the available stomach without removing anything. It relies on a series of alterations to the stomach that can be likened to ‘plumbing.’ There is a reduced risk for a hernia and it results in a faster recovery.
