Live Life to the Fullest with a Gastric Balloon

We often get questions from our patients that are related to concerns regarding activity. With a gastric balloon you needn’t worry about going on a hike or going to the theme park, everything is on the cards as long as you are feeling up to it, except only for a couple of extreme exceptions.

One of the main advantages of a gastric balloon is a quick recovery time, meaning you can get back to enjoying the better things in life after your placement. As long as you are feeling up to it, there is little off the proverbial table. This includes, but is not limited to, going to the theme park with friends, going out for a walk, or making sure you get time in at the gym. In fact, there’s very little that will change in regard to your day-to-day life unless you are a scuba instructor or skydiver (other than, of course, reduced feelings of hunger). Feel free to explore, get energised, and make the most of your life beyond the gastric balloon – a temporary weight loss tool for long-term benefits.

As touched on above, the only things off limits are situations whereby there would be a drastic change in air pressure. This does not include commercial flights, and as such holidays abroad are absolutely fine to take with a gastric balloon in place. Although, we do recommend an adjustment period, and this can vary depending on the balloon you have placed. We would also advise you refrain from activities such as kickboxing, for obvious reasons! For a complete breakdown of advice, simply contact the medical weight loss specialists at Allure today.

Our Balloons

Allure Weightloss proudly support the placement and programmes of three gastric balloons in our clinics across England and Wales. Should you have any difficulty locating your nearest clinic, simply ask a member of our team.

The Swallowable Gastric Balloon

The Allurion Balloon, commonly known as the swallowable gastric balloon, comes in the form of a swallowable capsule, which you are supported to swallow by a GMC registered Consultant. This elegant device is attached to a catheter and is inflated once safely in the patient’s stomach. Post-placement recovery is typically quicker after the swallowable gastric balloon placement, but length of recovery can vary patient to patient. The balloon is then designed to pass naturally at around 16 weeks.

BiB Gastric Balloon

The BiB System is a gastric balloon designed to stay in place for six months. It is inserted via endoscopy by a GMC registered Consultant, and is supported by our celebrated aftercare programme. Dietary requirements are restricted for a little longer than the Allurion Balloon. The BiB requires an endoscopy for removal at the 6 month mark.

Orbera 365

The Orbera 365 is our 12 month gastric balloon placement procedure in the UK, and is supported again by our bespoke aftercare programme. The Orbera 365 can last in the stomach for up to 12 months, and can be removed earlier if the patient feels as though they have gotten the most that they can from the gastric balloon.
