The Gastric Bypass
The procedure itself involves our surgeon restructuring a patients stomach in order to ensure it is significantly smaller. This new ‘pouch’ bypasses the existing stomach, connecting to the small intestine. With a gastric bypass, a patient can typically expect to lose up to 70% of their excess body weight in a two year period.
The surgery itself can take up to 4 hours. Full recovery can be expected between 6 and 8 weeks, although individuals may only need 2 – 3 weeks off work depending on their profession.
