With three balloons to choose from, our patients not only experience the recorded benefit of the placement itself, but also our consultant-acclaimed aftercare programme which features the additional care of nurses and HCPC registered dietitians. Our balloons include the 4-month Allurion, 6-month BiB, and the Orbera 365 12-month gastric balloon.

Non-Invasive & Non-Surgical Weight Loss

Filled with a saline solution, the Allurion Balloon comes in the form of a swallowable capsule, whereas the Orbera and BiB require both an endoscopy and anaesthetic. Whichever is your choice, you will be seen at one of our placement centres by an experienced consultant.

What is a Gastric Balloon?

The 4, 6, and 12 month gastric balloons function much in the same way, in that they effectively suppress your appetite by filling space in your stomach. Our patients experience a total loss of 10 – 15% of their body weight on average, and with the help of registered dietitians, are coached into how to effectively keep the weight off. It is by complying with our state-of-the-art weight loss programme that sees our fantastic results, which is why we always say that you should view the balloon as a weight loss tool, rather than solution.

How do the Balloons Work?

Our selection of non-surgical gastric balloons work by temporarily taking up space in the stomach of one of our patients, thereby suppressing their appetite. Accompanied by the Allure Dietetic Programme as standard, patients then work to develop healthier lifestyle choices that will outlast the placement of their balloon and help to maintain weight loss.

As touched on, all placements with Allure Weightloss are overseen and conducted by experienced GMC registered Consultants, handpicked for their professionalism and expertise.

What are the Common Gastric Balloon Side Effects?

In the first few days after placement, it is natural to feel unwell, which is why we encourage our patients to take a little time off work in order to accommodate the process of your body adjusting to the balloon. These short-term side effects include vomiting, nausea, and stomach cramps. You will be prescribed medication to help alleviate this as much as possible. At Allure Weightloss, your health is our primary concern.

Gastric Balloon Eligibility Requirements

You must have a BMI of at least 27 (don’t worry if you don’t know it, our team can help), and have no contraindications. Due to the nature of the 4 month balloon, with it passing naturally at around 16 weeks, you may have had an operation that means you are unable to have it but would be fine for the 6 or 12 month gastric balloon. Our support team of medical weight loss specialists will be able to work through all of this with you.

Our Range of Gastric Balloons

The Swallowable Allurion Gastric Balloon

Famed for being swallowable, only requiring one visit to a placement centre, the Allurion Balloon allows patients a way to avoid the endoscopy and anaesthesia of our other gastric balloon options. The Allurion Balloon lasts for around 16 weeks, where it will work to limit your feelings of hunger and enable you to make the necessary lifestyle choices to maintain your weight loss. At around 16 weeks the balloon will release the solution and pass naturally.

With the swallowable gastric balloon, patients can typically expect to lose 10 – 15% on average. This figure is with support from our dietitians and nurses, who help individuals create habits for long-term success.

The Allurion Balloon Duo

Should you feel as though you need it, it is possible to have two Allurion Balloons consecutively. The Allurion Duo Programme with Allure Weightloss comes with Dietetic Support as standard, and the same great care from our GMC registered consultants, nurses, and support team. The price for the Allurion Duo is available upon request.

The BIB 6 Month Gastric Balloon UK

The BIB 6 month gastric balloon is just that, a gastric balloon that stays in your stomach for 6 months, wherein it will suppress your hunger and leave you feeling fuller for longer. With support from our dietitians, you will be expected to work with the balloon to change your dietary habits and lifestyle as a whole. The 6 month gastric balloon will require two visits to a placement centre, one for placement and another for removal, each conducted by a GMC registered Consultant that has been handpicked for their knowledge and expertise in their field.

The Orbera 365 12 Month Gastric Balloon UK

Similarly to the 6 month gastric balloon, the Orbera 365 requires two visits to one of our placement centres for placement and removal. You may have the 12 month gastric balloon in place for up to 12 months, with early removal available if you feel as though it is no longer necessary to maintain your weight loss. You will have dietetic care for 12 months with the Orbera 365 programme, and access to our support team for that period. As with the other two balloons, Weight Counselling is also available at an extra cost, should you feel as though you need it.

Gastric Balloon FAQs

A gastric balloon is a non-surgical and short-term (temporary) weight loss device. A smooth, soft saline-filled balloon (about the size of an grapefruit) is placed in your stomach, allowing you to control your portion sizes by filling space in your stomach. By following professional health and wellness advice, you can adopt good healthy eating habits and change your lifestyle so you can lose weight quickly and keep it off long term.

Gastric balloons have been used in the management of obesity for over 20 years. Over this time they have evolved in shape, size, and design resulting in a modern, durable product, which is now well established as a safe weight loss procedure. Over 277,000 ORBERA® balloons have been placed worldwide.

Once in place, the gastric balloon is filled with saline to partially fill the stomach so that they may consume smaller portions of food. Most weight is lost in the first three months, but because the gastric balloon stays in for six months, you will learn the right amount of food to eat to maintain your new weight long term.

It is very likely that the presence of the balloon in the stomach will cause nausea or vomiting after placement. In some patients it may last one to two weeks. Your HCP may prescribe medication to help minimize these potential effects. Patients will need to immediately contact their physician for any severe or unusual symptoms.

The most widely used measurement for obesity. The BMI approximates body mass using a mathematical ratio of weight and height [(weight in kg ÷ height in meters) or (weight in pounds ÷ height in inches x 703)]. A BMI of 30 or more is regarded by most health agencies as the threshold for obesity. A BMI of 40 or more generally qualifies as morbid obesity. However, note that BMI measurements in body-builders and athletes may not be accurate determinants of obesity because the BMI does not distinguish between muscle and fat.
