The Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty is a state-of-the-art weight loss procedure, designed to achieve an excess weight loss of 49% without the need for surgical interventions such as the gastric sleeve and bypass. It does this by limiting the space inside your stomach, restructuring it through a system of suturing via an endoscopy. Due to its nature, the ESG also has a much faster recovery time than bariatric surgery. Uniquely, but similarly to the gastric balloon, the ESG will not rule a patient out for further bariatric surgery.
Reduce Comorbidities with an Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty
Weight loss also leads to an expected reduction in the comorbidities associated with obesity. These include heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, sleep apnoea, type 2 diabetes, joint pain, and many more.
ESG Eligibility Criteria
Patients require a minimum BMI of 30 for the procedure, with a maximum of 45. A patient would not be able to have ESG if they’ve already had bariatric surgery, and they will not be able to eligible for the balloon if they have a large hiatal hernia or a condition that causes gastrointestinal bleeding.
ESG Patient Expectations
With general anaesthesia being used for your comfort, the procedure is typically completed within 60 – 90 minutes. An endoscope and an endoscopic suturing device are inserted down your throat to access the stomach. The camera will allow the consultant to perform the procedure without surgical incisions. The sutures will then be placed, pulling in the wall of the stomach and leaving a smaller space that restricts the amount you can eat. This makes an individual feel fuller quicker, and inevitably leads to weight loss when combined with the correct lifestyle changes.
Allure Weightloss ESG Aftercare
Allure provides an aftercare programme complete with dietetic care and nurse support. This is to help facilitate the lifestyle changes that will be necessary for long-term and maintained success with the Endoscopic Gastric Sleeve procedure.
In the United Kingdom, the ESG is performed using a specialist device and is conducted by specially trained consultants.
With no scarring, most patients go home on the same day of the procedure, and the apollo system which we use is the only one that is FDA approved.
Changes in diet and exercise should be made in order to optimise weight loss results.
A BMI of 30 – 50 is required to be eligible for the procedure.
This procedure reduces the stomach by around 70 – 80%.
