Dr Ash Bassi (MBBS, MPhil, MD, FRCP) is a medical gastroenterologist with interest in luminal gastroenterology and therapeutic endoscopy (gastroscopy, colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, ERCP). He trained in the leading units in Wales, London and Liverpool and was awarded a Doctorate of Medicine (MD) degree from Liverpool University.
He is the clinical director for gastroenterology at St Helens & Knowsley NHS Hospitals Trust where he was appointed as a Consultant in 2005. He provides the gastro lead for nutrition and lower GI services. He is a member of the colorectal cancer multidisciplinary team which specialises in prevention and management of bowel cancer. His other clinical interests include management of conditions such as diarrhea, constipation, irritable bowel, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, Coeliac disease, indigestion, reflux disease and anaemia.
He is a member of the British Society of Gastroenterology, American Society of Gastroenterology and American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Dr Bassi is an accredited trainer for endoscopy and a honorary senior lecturer at Liverpool University. Dr Bassi has a particular interest in Gastric Balloons and has placed both the Obalon and Allurion Elipse Gastric Balloons.
