The gastric balloon is a device dedicated to providing patients a medical weight loss option that doesn’t require surgery. As such, the way in which a patient experiences a gastric balloon placement is very different to how a patient may feel after gastric bypass or gastric sleeve surgery. After weight loss surgery, you will need time to recover from the operation – usually around 6 – 8 weeks. With a gastric balloon, however, we usually recommend around 3 – 4 days of down time, after which you should be able to go about your activities as normal.

Can I Fly with a Gastric Balloon?
Yes. Flying with a gastric balloon is perfectly fine. It will not burst or rupture on a commercial flight. Once you’ve recovered from the initial symptoms of having a placement you will be able to fly and enjoy your holiday as normal. All we recommend is that when you travel make sure it is to a country with modern medical facilities to account for any unexpected medical complications.
Can I Exercise with a Gastric Balloon?
Of course! In fact, it is highly recommended in order to get the most out of your gastric balloon experience. The only activities that we don’t recommend are kickboxing and deep sea diving – as well as parachuting. By exercising with a gastric balloon, along with dietary and general lifestyle alterations, you will be able to maximise the amount of weight you lose. Going for a jog, to the gym, or skipping in your garden are by no means out of the question.
