For those readers that aren’t already familiar with the Allurion Balloon, it is a swallowable gastric balloon available to those with a BMI of at least 27. Allure patients typically experience a weight loss of 14% on average, but often reach goals of 17%. This loss of overall body weight is achieved when patients view the balloon as a tool, and work with it alongside our HCPC registered Dietitian for additional support.

Described by one of our consultants as ‘elegant’, the Allurion Balloon differs to its 6- and 12-month counterparts most notably in that in does not require an endoscopy for placement. Famous for being swallowable, the balloon comes in a ‘pill’ form. This pill is attached to a catheter, which one in place, is used to inflate the Allurion gastric balloon. The balloon then lasts in the stomach for roughly 16 weeks and deflates and passes naturally at around that time.

Dr Ash Bassi

Dr Bassi is a medical gastroenterologist with an interest in liminal gastroenterology and therapeutic endoscopy. He is the clinical director for gastroenterology at St Helens & Knowsley NHS Hospitals Trust, where he was appointed as a consultant in 2005. A member of the British Society of Gastroenterology, American Society of Gastroenterology, and American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Dr Bassi is also an honorary senior lecturer at Liverpool University.
