The 12 Month Gastric Balloon UK

Requiring an endoscopy and light sedation, the 12 month gastric balloon UK (otherwise known as the Orbera 365) is placed during a 20 – 30 minute procedure that is overseen by one of our skilled and experienced GMC registered Consultants. Due to the sedation, you will then be under observation for 2 hours before being discharged. Likewise, you will not be able to drive for 24 hours post-procedure, and it is advised that you bring a friend or family member with you for support and practicality.

The Orbera 365 with Allure Weightloss typically sees patients experience a 10 – 17% reduction in total bodyweight. It is also important that prospective patients recognise that the 12 month gastric balloon can last up to 12 months, but the patients can have it removed as and when they feel comfortable. This is unlike the Allurion Balloon, which deflates naturally at 16 weeks due to it being a specially designed swallowable gastric balloon. The Orbera 365 also has a slightly higher average weight reduction, with Allurion Balloon patients finding an average of 10 – 15% weight loss.

The 12 Month Gastric Balloon UK Programme

The 12-month gastric balloon UK programme includes dietetic care, nurse support, and access to our general support centre. This is all part of our celebrated aftercare programme, which is included as standard. Allure patients are also able to take advantage of weight counselling with our psychologist Dr Mark Bruce, at an extra cost of £130 per session.

Post-procedure, you will be on a fluid diet for up to 1 week, slowly transitioning to purees, soft foods, and then solids towards the end of week 2/3. Side-effects will include nausea, cramping, sickness, and potentially an upset tummy. It is essential that a patient keeps well-hydrated throughout and listens to the advice of our nurse and registered dietitian, who will be there to make sure everything is going as smoothly as possible. It is also important that prospective patients understand that these symptoms are to be expected and are completely normal. This is so that you are better prepared for the experience, even mentally.
